Essential notes for this permit
FBC 454.1.10.1 Repairs or alterations of pool
structure and equipment.
Replacement of the pool or spa shell is considered
to be construction of a new facility and shall be
processed as such. Resurfacing the pool interior
to original nontoxic, slip-resistant, and smooth
specifications is considered a repair or
alteration. Equivalent replacement of equipment is
not considered a repair or alteration. The
following items shall be addressed during
resurfacing projects
FBC EB Section 302.6 Swimming Pools
The provisions of Section 302.6.1 and 302.6.2
apply to all alterations, repairs, additions, and
relocation of equipment at existing swimming pools
regardless of compliance method.
Any resurfacing of pool interior is considered a
repair and must comply with 302.6.1 Ground-Fault
Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel and
302.6.2 Equipotential Bonding.
Compliance with 302.6 for resurfacing only at
permit submittal will require a letter from
Electrical Contractor that the existing
Equipotential system has been tested and existing
Ground Fault Protection has been tested and passed
inspection and will require an electrical permit
but will not require an electrical inspection. If
a new Equipotential system or Ground Fault
Protection is required, then an electrical permit
must be obtained and inspected.
454.2.17.1.9
Where a wall of a dwelling serves as part of the
barrier, one of the following shall apply:
All doors and windows providing direct access from
the home to the pool shall be equipped with an
exit alarm complying with UL 2017 that has a
minimum sound pressure rating of 85 dBA at 10 feet
(3048 mm). Any deactivation switch shall be
located at least 54 inches (1372 mm) above the
threshold of the access. Separate alarms are not
required for each door or window if sensors wired
to a central alarm sound when contact is broken at
any opening
Work in the right of way requires coordination
with the Monroe County Public Works & Engineering
Division. Work performed within the right of way
may require a separate permit or approval in
addition to a permit issued by the Monroe County
Building Department and /or the utilities. It is
the responsibility of the owner to obtain all
required permits before starting work. Failure to
obtain a right of way permit when required may
result in work stoppages or penalties.
